The NDIS funds supports and services to help eligible people with disability achieve their goals, increase independence, and participate more fully in community life.
Reef Retreat NQ is a centre-based facility supporting people with disability to access funded services that promote independence, inclusion, and quality of life.
Short Term Respite Care at Reef Retreat NQ
The NDIS recognises that from time-to-time, people may require temporary supports that are different from their usual arrangements. Short Term Respite (STR) is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from the usual home environment.
STR funding is designed to:
- Give people with disability the opportunity to try new things, make new friends, and develop new skills.
- Provide a break for informal carers, helping to sustain ongoing caring arrangements.
- Support the maintenance of current living situations by giving informal supports a break.
Key points about STR funding:
- The NDIS generally funds up to 28 days of STR per year, which can be used flexibly (for example, as a block of up to 14 days at a time, or for one weekend each month).
- STR is often funded when a person’s usual carers are not available, or to support a person to try new experiences.
- STR can be provided at different support ratios, such as 1:1 or 1:2, depending on individual needs and whether supports can be shared with another participant during the stay at Reef Retreat NQ.
What STR does and does not cover:
- STR funding covers accommodation, personal care, and the support needed to take part in community, cultural, or social activities.
- STR is not for holidays—NDIS funding cannot be used for holiday packages, holiday accommodation, or travel for leisure.
- Meals, activities, and transport may be included in the daily rate only if STR is delivered in a centre-based/group setting and in line with NDIS guidelines.
- As Reef Retreat NQ is a purpose-built centre-based facility, services therefore qualify under NDIS guidelines to integrate your personal care support and accommodation, and may include food, activities and transport as part of your daily rate.
